It a beautiful city and the capital of the state of Uttarakhand. Some people called it Doon also. Doon means the door. Dehradun is one of the beautiful places of 13 districts of Uttarakhand. As we think about the Dehradun we imagine a beautiful place around with beautiful hills and beautiful views like flowers, Rivers, and many more other beautiful things.
In the past 20 years, it changes many things like weather and society. Even we have seen changes in the physical structures. Now Dehradun is not similar to it show before 20 years.

Area, and Position of Dehradun
The total area of Dehradun is 3088 sq km. The location of Doon is east of Uttarakhand. Currently, Dehradun is expanded from Asharodi to Kodhal Gate and Kuanwala to Sidhuwala.
History of Dehardun from Dehra to Dehradun
The old name of Dehradun is Dehra. It takes about 5 centuries to journey from Dehra to Dehradun. In ancient times where there are British buildings situated between Lychee trees now, there are so many tall buildings are there.
After becoming the capital of Uttarakhand, it is as Dehradun's identity has changed. With this, there are so many changes you can see in Dehradun's cultures and weather.

Most of the peoples connected Dehradun with the Mahabharath. The Drauna village situated in the Maldevta's hill is the proof of it and make a trust of it. People's trust is that Draun village is made by Guru Drauna. And with this trust, IMA (Indian Military Academy) named an IMA gate Draun gate.
In the 17 century, a twist comes in Dehradun History with the coming with Guru Ram Ray. After this, the name of Dehradun changed from Dehra. In ancient times it is a valley but after coming to Guru Ram Ray it changed to City from a valley.
The Garhwal Kingdom, Nepal King, and British Rule
The main turning points in the history of Dehradun are the Garhwal Kingdom occupied by the Nepal King and the British Rule. We want to tell you that in ancient times it was a part of the Garhwal kingdom. When the Nepal king occupied the Garhwal kingdom then the British government replaced the Nepal kingdom over the Gharwal. After this, both (Nepalis and British) population started to live in Deharadun.
In 1815, British people started tea farming, and then the Afghani Emperor started Basmati rice farming in Dehradun. In this way, the cultivation of tea and basmati rice started in Dehradun. These two things become the significance of Dehradun.
At last in the year 1900 after the railway line, the way to Dehradun is fully open for the outer world. In the same time period, many educational institutions started in D.Dun. And after a few time, Dehradun becomes the center of education. Some of the famous institutions which are established in Dehradun are FRI, SOI, IMA, and RIMC. (FRI- Forest Research Institute, SOI- Servey Of India, IMA- Indian Military Academy, RIMC-Rashtriya Indian Military College).
Just before the partition, The Doon School established On Chakrata road. This is the first registered school in Doon. It is established in 1935.
Tibetan Arrival and Government Established
In 1959 after the coming of the Tibetan religious Dalai Lama a lot of people comes here for shelter. They came here after being troubled by the atrocities of China. In the same year, he reached Mussoorie and tell the story of the atrocities of China to the country.
That time prime minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru meet them and be sure to help them. From that time till now you can see the Tibetan people colonies in the area of Rajpur road and happy valley in Mussoorie. You can also see their colonies in the Clement Town area.
The presence of Tibetan people also fills the color in Dehradun culture. Especially Chinese fast food which is so popular in between everyone.
Separate District
Still 1947, Dehradun become a well-established city. Now the day comes in which Dehradun become a separate district the date was 9 November 2000. After 9 November, Dehradun had to bear the additional weight as the capital of Uttrakhand. Since then people come here from different regions of the country till now.

The first place to visit in Dehradun is Clock Tower. D.Dun is known as the heart of the city. It is a beautiful building situated in the middle of the city. It has 6 corners and people said that it is the only clock tower with 6 corners. The clock tower is beginning to start in 1948 and completed in the year 23 October 1953. It took 5 years to build. Its foundation laid by Sarojni Naidu.Sarojni Naidu was the governor of Uttar Pradesh at that time. Dehradun Clock Tower is built by the famous and one of the richest person Anand Singh in the memorial of his father Lala Balbir Singh.
Dehradun's Clock Tower is also known as the Balbir Tower. D.Dun clock tower was inaugurated by Lal Bahadur Shastri who was the rail minister of that time.
FRI (Forest Research Institute)
The second beautiful place to visit in Doon is FRI. It is a very beautiful building which is spread around 10712 sq meters. Forest Research Institute established in 1878 as the British Imperial Forest School. In the year 1906, British Imperioa Forest School named changed Forest Research Institute.It has a very big campus with a beautiful garden. There is also a wooden Museum where you can see a lot of ancient things which are made of wood.
Khalanga War Memorial
In 1815 there was a war between the British army and the Nepali's Gorkha army in the hills of Tapovan. From the British Army Major General Jilaspi and from the Nelpali's Army Senapati Balbhadra Thapa took the front charge of the war.A dangerous fight was done between both the armies and this war is known as the War of Khalanga. You can see the Khalanga War Memorial.
Dehradun's Canal: Identity Which Lost
British Dehradun was famous for its well-maintained Cannel System. It was used for the people and for the fields. Dehradun's Cannel system was developed by Captain Cautley and he has an important role to develop it. He has polished Rani Karnawati's time channel.
First time in 1844, water was flow in the Rajpur channel. Although after making the separate district the canals made underground. That's why a large number of people don't know about these canals.
Buddha Temple
If you are fond of visiting temples then Buddha Temple is one of the best places for you to visit in Dehradun. It is situated in Clement Town and it is approx 3 km far away from ISBT Dehradun. You can see a large field of grass and beautiful temples. You can eat some food here, there is a small shop where you can eat food and enjoy yourself with your family.
Doon Zoo
If you are in Dehradun then you must visit the Doon Zoo. The first name of Doon zoo is Malsi Dear Park. You can see many animals and birds here. You can see a lot of dear here so that the first name of this park is Malsi Dear Park. But in 2017 its name changed Doon Zoo from Malsi Dear Park. First is a mini-park but in 2017 it became a medium size park so that why it known as a Zoo. It is about 13 km far away from the ISBT Dehradun.
